Modeling of Isothermal Dissolution of Precipitates in a 6061 Aluminum Alloy Sheet during Solution Heat Treatment

نویسندگان

چکیده

During the solution heat treatment (SHT) process of aluminum alloys, precipitates dissolve into matrix. To predict dissolution time, modeling isothermal in 6061 alloy during SHT was conducted. A precipitate model established, and flowchart designed as well. Then explicit finite-difference method employed to solve model, mobile nodes used deal with moving interface. The simulation based on real 6061, experiments were conducted validate numerical model. results showed that time 6061-T6 at 560 °C is 11.6856 s. close experimental results, an error 16.7%, indicating this study fairly reasonable accurate. caused by many factors, should be improved.

Void growth in 6061-aluminum alloy under triaxial stress state

In numerous metals and alloys, ductile fracture involves void nucleation, growth, and coalescence. In this contribution, void growth has been quantitatively characterized in an extruded 6061-wrought Al-alloy as a function of stress state in notch tensile test specimens. Digital image analysis and Stereology have been used to estimate the volume fraction and three-dimensional number density of v...

Welding Aluminum Alloy 6061 with Opposing Dual Torch Gtaw Process

Cracking is a major concern in welding aluminum alloys. Although weld solidification cracks can be eliminated through addition of filler alloy, the additives modify the alloy or base-metal constituents and may not always be desirable. High-energy beam processes, such as electron-beam welding, that result in minimal heat input reduce crack sensitivity, but their high cost limits their applicatio...

Compositional evolution of Q-phase precipitates in an aluminum alloy

Lightweight, age-hardenable aluminum alloys are attracting increasing attention as a means to reduce vehicle mass and improve fuel economy. To accelerate the adoption of these alloys, knowledge of the complex precipitation processes that underlie their primary strengthening mechanism is essential. Here we employ a combination of atom-probe tomography (APT), differential scanning calorimetry (DS...

Stress-Assisted Corrosion of Aluminum 6061 in Basic Solution

Caustic stress corrosion cracking has only been superficially examined in aluminum alloys. In caustic (basic) environments, the inherent, protective oxide layer becomes soluble on aluminum and allows for further degradation. The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of a strong base solution (sodium, hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, sodium silicate, pH ~12) on the strength and stress-st...
